Car accident injury doctor in Staten Island

A crash can leave you stiff and sore a day or two later, even if you walked away feeling fine. An exam soon after the accident documents what hurts and gets care started early. We see patients at our Staten Island office, 1630 Richmond Rd, Suite 101, Staten Island, NY 10304.

Your care in Staten Island

On Staten Island, Jake Stephen, DO, examines your crash injuries and builds the plan. Physical therapy with Victoria Lynn Kain, DPT, or Nicholas “Nick” Ursini, DPT, starts in the same office, and cervical or lumbar traction is available for neck and low back pain.

Everyone is different. Treatment options and results vary from person to person.

Symptoms worth getting checked

  • Neck or back stiffness that’s worse the next morning
  • A headache that keeps coming back

Insurance and your claim

New York no-fault insurance usually pays for medical treatment after a car crash no matter which driver caused it. Not sure your claim is open? Call, and the office will tell you what it needs. The general guide is on our car accident (no-fault) page.

After-work visits on Richmond Road

The office stays open until 8 pm Monday to Thursday, so therapy can fit around a work day. Dr. Stephen is dual board-certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine. If pain persists despite therapy, procedures such as epidural steroid injections or trigger point injections are done here on Staten Island.

If you need occupational or hand therapy for an arm injury, that part of your care happens at our Brooklyn office.

How the visit works

  1. Call or request an appointment online; the office calls back to confirm.
  2. For no-fault or workers’ comp cases we check the claim before you come in. Otherwise we check your health insurance.
  3. At the first visit the clinician asks what happened, examines you and orders imaging if needed.
  4. You agree on a plan together, and the office handles the medical paperwork with the insurer.

On Staten Island, Jake Stephen, DO, does the evaluation and orders imaging if it’s needed. The plan can include physical therapy, lumbar or cervical traction and, when conservative care isn’t enough, pain procedures done at this office, such as epidural steroid injections, nerve blocks, or joint and trigger point injections.

Questions

Should I wait to see if the pain goes away?

It’s better not to. Neck, back and joint injuries often show up a day or two after a crash, and an early exam documents them.

I already went to the ER. Do I still need an exam?

The ER rules out emergencies. A follow-up exam looks at the neck, back and joint pain that often shows up later and starts treatment. Bring your ER paperwork.
